Over the next few years, Humana Inc. will transition from “an insurance company with elements of health care to a health care company with elements of insurance,” the company’s chief strategy officer, Vishal Agrawal, revealed at a digital health event in New York last week. Initial steps toward this goal include building primary care clinics, investing in value-based care initiatives and creating new tech-focused platforms for members to keep better track of their treatment plans. Humana is currently the sixth-largest health insurer in the U.S., with 11,858,977 members. Just over one-third (33.7%) of Humana’s members are enrolled in Medicare Advantage products.
