Hemsley will remain as executive board chairman….Kevin Counihan, CEO of HealthCare.gov and former CEO of Access Health Connecticut, is joining Centene Corp. to lead its Midwestern market….Kaiser Permanente Hawaii appointed Daniel Shaw vice president and chief financial officer. He joined Kaiser Permanente in 2001 and was named the Hawaii plan’s interim CFO in April 2017.

  • BDC Advisors said Elizabeth Walker joined the firm's consulting staff as a principal. She most recently was director of strategy and network development for Quorum Health Resources….Altruista Health, Inc. appointed David McConney chief operating officer. He previously was managing director of a large Canadian bank’s Caribbean operations and managed a community bank in the Cayman Islands….Susan R. Steagull was named chief information officer of VCU Health System, succeeding Rich Pollack, who retired June 30. Steagull most recently was vice president of application delivery services at Novant Health.

  • TRICAST named Jim Clair CEO and Chris Lagnese vice president of sales and services. Clair previously was the CEO of Goold Health Systems before its acquisition by Change Healthcare in 2013, after which Clair was president of the wholly owned subsidiary. Lagnese was the director of pharmacy benefit administrator products and services at Change Healthcare….Cognizant subsidiary TriZetto Provider Solutions promoted Kevin Lathrop to president. He most recently was chief operating officer….NextHealth Technologies appointed Stephen LaViolette vice president of sales for its Eastern region. Prior to joining NextHealth, LaViolette was vice president of sales at Xerox Services.

  • Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah appointed James Swayze plan president. He previously served as president and CEO of Colorado’s largest third party administrator of employee benefit plans….GlaxoSmithKline plc named Karenann Terrell chief digital and technology officer with the goal of transforming how new technologies are used to improve performance across the Group. She most recently was chief information officer for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc….Beacon Health Options hired Richard Lynch as executive vice president and market president, Northeast Region. He previously was chairman, president and CEO of CeltiCare Health Plan of Massachusetts, a Centene Corp. subsidiary.

  • RxEOB named Ken Kolb vice president of pharmacy analytics. He was previously a principal with The Kolotti Group and the director of clinical outcomes, assessment and research for Magellan Health Services….Aileen Luz, M.D., joined Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota as a medical director in the Health Network Innovation department. Luz previously was a primary care physician at Fargo VA Healthcare System and a clinical assistant professor of Family and Community Medicine at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks….BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee promoted Robbie Sims to vice president and chief audit executive. He most recently was director of internal audit.

July 31

  • Regence BlueShield named Tim Lieb market president. The Cambia Health Solutions, Inc. subsidiary said Lieb has served as interim market president of Regence BlueShield since March, in addition to his primary role as vice president of sales….CDPHP appointed Daniel Sauer vice president of sales. He has nearly 30 years of experience in health care, including leadership positions at Prudential HealthCare and HealthNet. He was most recently vice president of sales at MVP Health Care….Mobile Health hired Greg Armer as vice president, strategy and growth. Most recently, Armer led the West Region account management team in Anthem, Inc.’s national accounts unit.

July 27

  • The Segal Group promoted three officers to senior vice president: Vice President, Benefits Consultant Stacey Hostetler Carter of Washington, D.C.; Vice President, Actuary Harold S. Cooper of Glendale, Calif.; and Vice President, Benefits Consultant Michael I. Helmer of Minneapolis….Jet Health, Inc. named Marlin Yoder senior vice president of operations, a newly created position. Yoder most recently was a regional vice president for Kindred at Home….Medxcel Facilities Management hired Jim Prince as director of energy and facilities performance excellence. He also will serve on the company's executive leadership team. Leenay previously was chief medical director — care model….InteliSyS Health named Stanley Crane chief technology officer. He previously was chief technology officer and chief innovation officer at Allscripts.

  • The National Association of Health Underwriters named Michael Embry president of the board of trustees, replacing outgoing President Jim Stenger. Embry is the founder and president of Comprehensive Benefits, Inc. In addition, Russell Rice was named president-elect. He is the regional vice president of sales for Avesis Inc….CoreSource appointed Meera K. Atkins, M.D., chief medical leader. She previously served as Aetna Inc.’s medical director for the Great Lakes Region….The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) named Ken McKay vice president for State Government Affairs. He most recently managed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s presidential campaign and then served as political director of Rebuilding America Now.

July 17

  • RxEOB named Howard Darvin, M.D., chief medical officer. He was previously with University Hospitals of Cleveland….The National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care said CEO Robert G. Kramer will transition to the role of founder and strategic advisor. President Brian Jurutka will add CEO duties to his current responsibilities….Carmela Coyle, president and CEO of the Maryland Hospital Association, was named president and CEO of the California Hospital Association and its parent organization, the California Association of Hospitals & Health Systems. Coyle will replace long-time President/CEO C. Duane Dauner, who is retiring.

July 13

  • Dragonfly Therapeutics, Inc. named Nicolai Wagtmann chief scientific officer. He will head the company’s scientific team and the development and commercialization of novel Natural Killer (NK) cell-based immunotherapies. Wagtmann joins Dragonfly from Innate Pharma, where he served as executive vice president and chief scientific officer and led the company’s biopharmaceutical research and development of NK cell-based therapeutic antibodies for the treatment of cancer….Humana Inc. appointed Sam Deshpande to the newly created position of senior vice president and chief risk officer to oversee development of the company’s Chief Risk Office. Deshpande joins Humana from Capital One, where he most recently served as business chief risk officer for the U.S. and international card business….Cynthia West joined CAQH as managing director, business development and account management. She previously was vice president, sales and marketing, for Thomson Reuters.

July 10

  • Geisinger named Karen Murphy executive vice president, chief innovation officer and founding director of the Steele Institute for Healthcare Innovation. Murphy is Pennsylvania’s secretary of health, and previously served as director of CMS’s State Innovation Models Initiative….Community Health Accreditation Partner (CHAP) said CEO Karen Collishaw has resigned. Barbara McCann, chair of CHAP’s board, will serve as interim president and CEO….Dennis W. Pullin was named president and CEO of New Jersey health system Virtua, succeeding Richard P. Miller. Pullin now serves as president of Medstar Harbor Hospital and senior vice president of MedStar Health.

July 6

  • Ciox Health appointed Paul Roma CEO. He joins Ciox from Deloitte LLP, where he was chief analytics officer and led the Deloitte Analytics division. Roma succeeds Ed Coleman, who will serve as a member of the board of directors….Michigan multispecialty medical group IHA named Mark A. LePage, M.D., CEO, succeeding the late Bill Fileti. LePage most recently served as chief medical officer at Marshfield Clinic….KEPRO named Anne C. Chappuie vice president of growth and development. She previously served as vice president of business development and sales management for Advent Health Partners, vice president of government strategy and business development for Optum, Inc., vice president of development and account management for Bloodhound Technologies, Inc. and vice president of financial services for Maximus, Inc.

  • Highmark Health unit Allegheny Health Network promoted Christopher Clark, D.O., to president of Saint Vincent Hospital. He has served in several leadership roles at the hospital over the past decade, including senior vice president of medical affairs, chief quality officer, associate chief medical officer and director of continuing medical education….Clear Guide Medical, Inc. appointed Bob Cathcart CEO. He most recently was senior vice president of global sales at Hansen Medical….Kyruus named Erin Jospe, M.D., chief medical officer. She previously was chief medical officer at PatientKeeper.

  • The American Medical Association elected David Barbe, M.D., a family physician from Mountain Grove, Mo., president, and Barbara McAneny, M.D., an oncologist from Albuquerque, N.M., president-elect….Amerigroup Community Care of Georgia promoted Melvin Lindsey to president. Lindsey succeeds Francesca Gary, who recently assumed another leadership role in the organization. Lindsey joined Amerigroup in 2000 and has held several leadership positions supporting Amerigroup Georgia, including interim CEO in 2008. In addition, Amerigroup Louisiana named Aaron A. Lambert Medicaid health plan president. He most recently served as the head of operations for Amerigroup Georgia, where he led core Medicaid efforts and the development of the health plan’s foster care program.

June 22

  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana appointed Vindell Washington, M.D., chief medical officer. He most recently served as the national coordinator for health information technology at HHS….Highmark Inc. named Timothy J. Constantine, president of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware, to the new position of president and chief operating officer of Highmark subsidiary United Concordia Dental. Constantine also will retain his role as a market-facing executive in Delaware and Central Pennsylvania for Highmark….Kyruus appointed Erin Jospe, M.D., chief medical officer. She previously was chief medical officer at PatientKeeper.

  • Health New England appointed Kyle Bertke director of business development, responsible for the design, delivery and evaluation of new and existing products and benefits. He previously was director of business development for the Pro Venture initiative at Aetna Inc. In addition, Risk Adjustment Manager Jessica Dupont was promoted to director of risk adjustment, and Medicaid Program Manager Kerry LaBounty was promoted to director of government programs….Cigna Corp. named David Kobus market president for its Tri-State Market division, covering New York, New Jersey and Southern Connecticut. Kobus joins Cigna after a decade at Aetna, where he most recently served as executive director for the New York market….AMGA appointed Vice President of Membership and Marketing Ryan O’Connor to the position of interim president and CEO. He succeeds Donald W. Fisher, who passed away in March 2017.

June 15

  • Healthx, Inc. named Jim Meer chief financial officer and Ellen Humphrey chief people officer. Prior to joining Healthx, Meer was senior vice president of finance at Appirio. Humphrey previously was senior vice president, human resources for Appirio….Peerfit appointed Adam Lowe chief technology officer. He most recently was chief technology officer for Aetna Inc. subsidiary WellMatch….Cigna Corp. hired Dr. Catherine Dimou as market medical executive for the company’s Midwest Market (covering Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan). Dimou joins Cigna from Rush University Medical Center, where she held multiple senior leadership positions, most recently associate dean of medical services.

June 12

  • Octapharma USA appointed Richard E. Walters, Jr. vice president of commercial development. He spent eight years with CSL Behring as vice president of U.S. sales and corporate accounts, and most recently was vice president of sales and marketing for General Medical Services….Mobile Health said Greg Fox joined the company as vice president of business development. Before joining Mobile Health, Fox was a regional sales vice president at Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, where he was responsible for growth and development of the New York, Connecticut and New England markets. Prior to Anthem, Fox served in various executive roles at Cigna Healthcare, United Healthcare and Great-West Healthcare….MiraMed Global Services, Inc. hired Stephanie A. Griffin as chief compliance officer. She previously served as chief clinical operations officer and chief compliance officer and privacy officer at ConcertoHealth.

June 8

  • Cigna Corp. promoted Monica Schmude to market president for the states of Delaware, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. She joined Cigna’s Mid-Atlantic market sales office in 2010, most recently serving as markets senior vice president of sales. Prior to joining Cigna, Schmude was manager of sales and business services for Aetna Inc.’s middle market segment business in Chicago. Cigna also promoted John Roble to market president for its Mountain States market, which includes Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. Donohoe joined Highmark in 2015 and previously was senior vice president of growth and customer experience at Physicians Immediate Care, an urgent care provider backed by Anthem, Inc.…Rosa & Co. named Matt Marano senior vice president of business development, overseeing expansion of the company's PhysioPD commercial strategy. He joins Rosa from SolveBio, where he served as senior vice president of commercial development….Human Longevity, Inc. appointed Saturnino (Nino) Fanlo chief financial officer. He most recently was president and chief financial officer of Social Finance, Inc.

  • Eric Huss will join Health Partners Plans as executive vice president of finance and administration. He most recently was chief financial officer at Clarus Healthcare, and also held leadership positions at UPMC Health System and Gateway Health….FirstCare Health Plans named Dr. Atheer Baldawi regional medical director for its Amarillo, Lubbock and Waco service areas. Prior to joining FirstCare, he served as a medical director for Killeen Metroplex Hospital in Killeen, Texas, and as an emergency medicine physician in several Central Texas hospitals. He also is on the faculty of Texas A&M Health Science Center, College of Medicine and a lecturer at the emergency medicine residency at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas.

  • IFM Therapeutics named H. Martin Seidel executive vice president of research and development. He joins IFM from Novartis, where he was most recently the global head of strategic alliances for the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research….Senscio Systems, Inc. appointed Gary M. Janko chief operating officer (COO). He joins Senscio after 10 years as COO at a national chronic pain management network….Carenet Healthcare Services said Kathy Lozano joined its senior management team as vice president of clinical services. She spent the last 11 years at West Corp., most recently as vice president of operations.

May 25

  • SelectHealth named Thomas Risse vice president and chief financial officer. He previously was chief financial officer for the Hawaii region of Kaiser Permanente….Global consulting firm Mercer promoted Ken Haderer to president of the North America Region. He formerly was chief operating officer and led Mercer Services. Haderer succeeds Simon O’Regan, who retired but will remain connected with the firm and its leadership in a senior advisory capacity. René Beaudoin, formerly Mercer Services global health delivery leader, succeeds Haderer as COO and leader of Mercer Services….Astellas promoted Mark Schwitzenberg vice president of the Marketing, Urology and Hospital Business Unit. Most recently, he was the executive director for Urology Marketing.

  • The Minnesota Vikings hired Tina Holmes as chief of staff and strategic advisor. Holmes joins the NFL team after spending the past four years as chief of staff at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota….The National Association of Insurance Commissioners elected South Carolina Insurance Director Raymond Farmer to fill the position of secretary-treasurer. He replaces former Texas Insurance Commissioner David Mattax, who passed away on April 13….Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. named Christopher E. Mead chief marketing officer. Mead comes to Gallagher from the CME Group, where he served as managing director for marketing.

  • BioScrip, Inc. named Stephen M. Deitsch senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer, replacing Jeffrey Kreger, who stepped down from the positions. Deitsch previously was executive vice president, chief financial officer and corporate secretary at Coalfire, Inc.…Diplomat Pharmacy, Inc. promoted Jennifer Cretu to senior vice president of pharma services and marketing for EnvoyHealth under Diplomat subsidiary Envoy Health Management, LLC. She previously was vice president of IT and marketing. Cretu will continue to oversee marketing, public relations and corporate communications for Diplomat….Demetrios Kouzoukas, former general counsel for the UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement division of UnitedHealth Group, was named principal deputy administrator and director with CMS’s Center for Medicare.

  • Astellas promoted Shontelle Dodson, Pharm.D., to senior vice president and head of Medical Affairs Americas. She previously served as vice president of Medical Excellence within the global Medical Affairs organization….Press Ganey appointed Mary Jo Assi associate chief nursing officer. She previously was vice president of nursing practice and innovation at the American Nurses Association….Conversa named Chris Edwards chief marketing and experience officer and Becky James vice president of operations. Edwards previously was global chief marketing officer at Validic, and James held senior positions in program and project management, technology and client delivery at WebMD Health Services.

May 11

  • Cigna Corp. will promote Eric Palmer to the role of chief financial officer when Thomas McCarthy retires this summer. Palmer currently serves as CFO for Cigna’s global health, Cigna-HealthSpring, employer-based health care, group and supplemental insurance businesses….Humana Inc. Vice President of Investor Relations Regina Nethery will retire at the end of May after nearly 22 years with Humana. Amy Smith, Humana’s director of investor relations, will take over….Molina Healthcare, Inc. fired CEO J. Mario Molina, M.D., and CFO John Molina. Chief Accounting Officer Joseph White has stepped into the role of interim president and CEO, while Board Director Dale Wolf has been named non-executive chairman of the board….Brian Thompson, CFO for the UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement division, will take over as CEO for the division; Steve Nelson, CEO for the Medicare & Retirement segment, has been promoted to UnitedHealthcare’s overall CEO. Current UnitedHealthcare CFO Dan Schumacher was named UnitedHealthcare president.

  • Otoharmonics appointed Donna Grant director of business development. She previously served as program manager for Sivantos, Inc….Rheoxtech LLC named David W.J. Smith president. He most recently was the founding CEO of Tenaxis Medical Inc….The Segal Group promoted Senior Vice President Eli Greenblum to chief actuary. He succeeds Tom Levy, who stepped down from the role after over 30 years to become chief actuary emeritus.

  • HealthSmart appointed William (Bill) Wallace executive vice president of HealthSmart Benefit Management. He will oversee business development, sales and marketing, account management and HealthSmartRx, the company’s prescription benefit manager, and will continue to serve on the company’s board of directors. Wallace previously served on the senior leadership teams of Medical Care America, Perot Systems Healthcare, Medco Health Solutions and Diplomat Pharmacy. Most recently, he was the executive vice president of Pharmaceutical Strategies Group….Anthem Inc. named Hongmai (Mai) Pham, M.D., vice president, Provider Alignment Solutions, overseeing Anthem’s value-based payment collaborations.
