The most current and comprehensive source of health plan enrollment data and key executive contact information for all health insurance companies operating in the U.S.
AIS’s Directory of Health Plans puts a wealth of competitive intelligence in your hands so you can easily research one company, several plans, or enrollment by state or plan type. This unique resource makes it easy to look up details on specific health plan companies — who to contact, where they operate, what types of products they offer, what their enrollment size is and more.
(1) Printed Book: AIS’s Directory of Health Plans provides current health plan enrollment data and key executive contact information for all health insurance companies operating in the United States. The comprehensive printed book contains more than 600 pages of directory listings, plus an “Executive Summary” of enrollment trends in quick-view tables and charts.
(2) USB Flash Drive: Get a head start on your analyses — and easily conduct market research, create detailed company profiles and prospective client lists for your sales team, and develop targeted mailing lists! When you purchase the USB flash drive version of the Directory, you’ll receive data from AIS’s exclusive health plan database as Excel, Access and CSV files that are compatible with most sales software, so you can easily create the specific kind of analysis you need. (Includes a free copy of the print version.)
(3) Interactive Website: With an intuitive design that allows you — and up to nine other users — to quickly search, sort, filter and export specific data selections directly to your desktop, you don’t need to be a spreadsheet expert to find exactly the data you need. The website includes new fields and records, such as additional state-level enrollment breakdowns that are not included in the book or USB. There’s even a lookup tool that calculates total enrollments for any user-defined category! Plus, a subscription to the online version includes a newsfeed and monthly email newsletter on activities that impact enrollment and market share, and bonus analyses and updates during the year. Learn more about the website at https://AISHealthData.com/DHP. (Includes a free copy of the print version and a USB flash drive.)

All known health insurers are surveyed annually by AIS staff researchers. The survey for the 2016 edition was conducted in February-April 2016. Organizations are contacted individually and offered options to fill out an online or paper survey, or to provide information via email, fax, mail or telephone interviews. Data provided directly by companies via survey is deemed the most accurate and up-to-date information on that company. For companies that do not return a survey, or where blanks are left on responses, researchers endeavor to complete the record through other means.
Survey data are audited against public records as available. For listed entities that prefer for AIS to fill out enrollment information from publicly available data sources, commercial enrollment is from state insurance department filings and/or SEC filings. Medicare enrollment is from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) records. Medicaid enrollment, when not provided by the company, is collected from state Medicaid agency reports. See specific data sets for source dates.
Data from company websites, SEC filings, company press releases and published news reports were used to supplement the records.
For 12 years, America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) — the national trade association representing health plans — has selected AIS’s Directory of Health Plans as the official directory resource.
AIS’s Directory of Health Plans is published by AIS Health. The research and data tracking is conducted by in-house researchers who work exclusively for AIS.
To produce AIS’s Directory of Health Plans, AIS’s on-staff researchers personally interview or survey a knowledgeable person at each health plan — including subsidiaries and parent companies — to get a clear picture of product offerings, contracts and markets. We work hard to ensure that each covered life is counted only once, and is categorized by plan models that are defined in a consistent and meaningful manner which reflect the current industry. By maintaining impeccable research standards and strict methodology, AIS’s health plan data offers true year-over-year comparisons and extremely accurate and sensitive insight into developing trends.
