Sources: Price Pick for HHS Puts a Face on ACA Dismantling

President-elect Donald Trump (R) on Nov. 29 selected staunch Affordable Care Act (ACA) opponent Rep. Tom Price, M.D. (R-Ga.), for secretary of HHS and Seema Verma, president and founder of SVC Inc., a health care consultancy in Indianapolis, to be administrator of CMS. She is a confidant of Vice President-elect Mike Pence. Price, a former orthopedic surgeon, is the rare Republican who not only opposed the ACA and pushed for its repeal, but who also authored a replacement proposal. His Empowering Patients First Act of 2015 features refundable tax credits for health insurance coverage, provisions for states to form high-risk pools and reinsurance pools, and a ban on the use of comparative effectiveness research to deny coverage of a prescription drug or medical device.... He previously served in executive finance and operations roles at the Washington state business unit of Centene Corp.’s Coordinated Care subsidiary....Select Medical Corp., a subsidiary of Select Medical Holdings Corp., appointed Scott Nordlund executive vice president, partnership growth and innovation. He most recently was chief strategy and business development officer at Trinity Health....Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey hired Mary Ann Christopher as vice president, clinical operations and transformation. Prior to joining Horizon, she was president and CEO of Visiting Nurse Service of New York.
