Quote of the Day

“A change in the tax treatment of commercial health care spending — which will [affect] medical and pharmacy benefit prescription drugs as part of typical health benefit plans — is the most likely target of a Republican White House and Congress [related to pharmacy benefits]. This would entail eliminating employers’ tax deduction for employee/dependent health care expenditures, and instead enabling employees to deduct a fixed amount on their individual tax returns....Medicare beneficiaries comprise a large and vocal segment of our society. A large fraction of them vote. Florida is a major swing state that Republicans must win, and has a high fraction of retirees. The likelihood of political pushback makes it unlikely that, as much as they may want to privatize Medicare, Republicans will take that on.”

— Elan Rubinstein, Pharm D., principal, EB Rubinstein Associates, told AIS’s Drug Benefit News.
